Harold E. Martin, 84, of Cumberland passed peacefully on October 12, 2024 at the hospice unit of Devlin Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Cumberland, MD.
Harold was born in Cumberland on August 9, 1940 to the late Grover and Caroline (Donahoe) Martin. In addition to his parents he was proceeded in death by his son, Dennis Matthew Martin; and a brother, Grover Vincent Martin.
Harold graduated from LaSalle High School with the class of 1960. He worked at the Queen City Brewery and then Schmidt Bakery, he then went on to a career as a facilities engineer with the Western Maryland Health System from which he retired.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Parish. He served as a senior server, and usher at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Harry was also a member of the Knights of Columbus #586, Cumberland Outdoor Club, Goodfellowship Club, and Haystack Sportsmen Club. He was a very active coach for local football teams, and he loved the Pittsburgh Steelers and Notre Dame Football.
In addition he was an avid outdoorsmen, and he passed along the tradition to his grandchildren.
Anyone who knew Harold experienced his kind heart and ability to make everyone feel special by his thoughtful and selfless gestures.
Surviving is his wife of 58 years, Judith A. (Blake) Martin; a daughter, Christine Martin; grandsons, Andrew J. Schweitzer and Ryan J. Schweitzer; a daughter in law, Dr. Christa Lese Martin; a brother, Robert D. Martin and wife Eileen, a special nephew, David Broadwater; and a large extended family including nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 17th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A. 108 Virginia Ave, Cumberland, MD. A Christian Wake service will begin at 7:00 p.m..
A mass of the Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 18th at St. Patrick's Church, 201 N Centre Street, Cumberland.
Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, Cumberland.
Pallbearers will be Andrew and Ryan Schweitzer, Dave Broadwater, Shawn Klitz, Brian Martin and Brian Sullivan.
