Helene Veronica (Smith) Blake, 95, of Cumberland, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 27, 2025, at Allegany Health Nursing and Rehab.
Born July 10, 1929, in Cumberland, MD, she was the daughter of the late Aloysius I. and Lillian (Hammersmith) Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Michael P. Blake, Sr.; her sisters, Mary A. Engelbach (Clarence) and Ann Beacher (Frank) and her brother, Robert A. Smith (Mary).
Helene was a 1947 graduate of St. Mary's High School and a devoted member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, part of Our Lady of the Mountains Parish. She was also a member of the Queen City Region Antique Car Club, where she and her husband shared many happy memories of their love for classic cars. Helene spent much of her career working for the C&P Telephone Company.
Helene's greatest joy was her family. She treasured spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who brought light and laughter into her life. She also enjoyed playing cards with her friends and planning outings for lunch, always embracing the simple pleasures that brought people together.
Helene is survived by her children, Michael P. Blake, Jr. (Martha), Gary C. Blake (Susan), and M. Beth Davis (Jerry); her grandchildren, Katie Manzur (Gus), Lindsey Riggin (Ryan Heselbach), and Kyle, Kelly, and Kelsey Blake and her great-grandchildren, Adyson and Liam Riggin, Kaia and Rigel Manzur, and Natalie Heselbach. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 300 E. Oldtown Road, Cumberland, on February 5, 2025, at 11 a.m.
Interment will follow at SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Friends Aware, 1601 Holland Street, Cumberland, MD, in Helene's memory.
