Obituary

James E. Briner, 86, passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh.

Born Oct 21, 1937, he was the fifth son and eighth child of the late Frances M. and John A. Briner. In addition to his parents, Jim was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Judy; and siblings, Margaret Lynch, John Briner, Lenora Schneider, Kathleen Wolz, Leo Briner, Richard Briner, and William Briner.

Jim graduated from LaSalle High school and was a four-year member of the U.S. Air Force. After his honorable discharge, Jim met the love of his life, Judy McKenty, and on Oct 22, 1960, they were married.

After working four years for Allegheny Instrument Co., he was transferred to New Haven, Conn. and after a year, accepted a position with Bendix Corp. in York, PA. Jim eventually settled into a supervisory role with Fincor Inc., a small electronics firm in York, where he worked for 26 years, the last 18 as sales office supervisor.

Jim was a past president of St. Rose of Lima School Board in York and a member of the Cumberland Knights of Columbus Council #586 and the Ridgely Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #6452.

After retirement, Judy was diagnosed with COPD, and so they returned to Cumberland. Jim lost his beloved wife of 52 years on Sept 5, 2013.

Jim is survived by his special nieces, Mary Frances "Sis" Lynch and Anna Marie Briner; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Briner; and a large extended family including many nieces and nephews.

In accordance with his wishes, Jim's body will be cremated.

Visitation will be Monday, January 8th from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A. 108 Virginia Ave, Cumberland.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Shrine of SS Peter and Paul, Cumberland on January 8th at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. Michael O. Lecias officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are asked to be directed to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital or Friends of the Shrine of SS. Peter and Paul, Inc. P.O. Box 1876, Cumberland, MD 21501-1876.
