CUMBERLAND - James R. "Hippie" Evans, 79, of Cumberland, MD, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2026 at Lions Rehab Center in Cumberland.

Born on May 3, 1947, Jimmy was the son of the late Charles and Zetta Evans. He also was preceded in death by daughters, Traci Kerns and Jaime Marvin.

Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Peach Evans; son, Chad Evans (Mallory); son-in-law, Teddy Marvin; grandchildren, TJ Marvin, Ryan Marvin, Chaz McDermott, Derek Evans, and Elena Evans; brother, Terry Evans (Etta); sister, Janet Adams (Rusty); mother-in-law, Mary Unger; numerous nieces and nephews; and his canine companion, P(T).

Jimmy attended Allegany High School. He was a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 489 for over 50 years. He retired to Chincoteague Island, VA, and later returned to Cumberland to be close to family. Jimmy managed the Circle Inn back in the hay-day. During his time in the Local 489, he enjoyed and made numerous lasting friendships traveling and working construction as far away as New Orleans, LA. Jimmy enjoyed cooking and barbecuing, including at the Cresaptown Eagles picnics and was the unofficial chef at Luke Paper Mill. Jimmy had a clever and incredible knack for storytelling. He also enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle.

Jimmy lived a full and adventurous life, and he did it his way.

Per his wishes, there will be no services.
