It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Bernard Hymes, Sr. He was a beloved father, husband, grandfather and dedicated caretaker, who left us on March 22, 2025 at the age of 77.

Born October 29, 1947, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late William Monroe and Thelma (Shoemaker) Hymes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Donna (Mantheiy) Hymes and his brothers, Leonard and Robert Hymes.

James spent his life as a skilled steamfitter and pipefitter of Local 489, known for his unwavering work ethic, patience, and commitment to excellence.

As a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Donna, a loving father to Lori and James Hymes, Jr, and a loving grandfather to his grandson, Kobie Hymes, and uncle to his numerous nieces and nephews. James created a warm and nurturing home filled with laughter and love. He was not only a provider, but also a builder—constructing numerous memories with his family through many hands-on projects. His sense of humor brought joy to every gathering, making even the simplest moments memorable.

When he wasn't at work, James could always be seen with his wife; they loved spending their free time together. James and Donna cherished their time traveling across the United States, exploring new places and creating unforgettable experiences together. Their adventures were a testament to their deep love for each other and their zest for life.

James will be remembered for his kindness, warmth, and the joy he brought to everyone around him. James leaves behind a legacy of love, craftsmanship, and cherished memories that will forever remain in our hearts. Rest in peace, dear James. You will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, MD, on Sunday, March 30, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 pm. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 4:30 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Ridgeley, WV, on Monday, March 31, 2025, at 10:00 am.

Interment will be in SS Peter and Paul Cemetery.
