Obituary

Cumberland—James T. King, 88, of Cumberland, passed away on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family.

Born in Cumberland, MD, on June 14, 1935, he was the son of the late James and Alberta (Moran) King. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Lee "Margie" (Lynch) King, who passed away on May 29, 2002.

Jim was a graduate of LaSalle High School, class of 1953. Following high school, he served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. After being discharged, Jim attended Frostburg State University where he earned his degree in education. Jim was a mathematics teacher in a four room schoolhouse in Urbana, MD. He then moved to Linganore High School in Frederick County, Maryland. Upon returning to Allegany County, Jim taught math at Bruce High School. He then was a teacher at Washington Junior High School/Middle School for 26 years before retiring.

Jim was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Our Lady of the Mountains Parish. He attended Daily Mass, and he was a member of the Church Council at one time. Jim enjoyed gardening, taking walks with his friends, and most of all spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.

Jim is survived by his children, Annie Messer and husband Wayne, Theresa Rossetti and husband Dr. Stephen Rossetti, Richard "Dick" King and wife Roxanne, Pat King and wife Kim, and Kathy Kokoski and husband Matt; grandchildren, Robyn, Chris and wife Alex, Erin and husband Jay, Emily, Ryan, Danny, and Sarah; sister, Mary Margaret King.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Friday, April 5, 2024 from 4 until 8 P.M. The Christian Wake service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 8 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Saturday April 6, 2024 at 11:30 A.M.

In lieu of sending flowers, those wishing to honor Jim's memory may make contributions to St. Anthony's Place at Our Lady of the Mountains Parish, 300 E Oldtown Rd, Ste 2, Cumberland, MD 21502.
