James Kim
Painter
Dec 26, 1953 — Feb 15, 2024
CUMBERLAND – James Kim Painter, 70, of Cumberland passed away at his home on February 15, 2024.
Kim was born on December 26, 1953 to the late Ernest E. Painter and Betty L. (McDonald) Painter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Donnie Lee Painter.
Kim was a graduate of the 1971 Fort Hill class. After graduating, he was still a loyal fan and could be found at every game. Even his house was decorated in the classic red and white. He took a lot of pride in his home, indoors and out. Kim was a passionate football fan, cheering on the Ravens alongside his love for Fort Hill. He also enjoyed watching the Orioles and the Lakers games. In his youth, Kim played softball and was a member of the Boy Scouts, accomplishing the Order of the Arrow.
He worked 40 years at Memorial Hospital/Western Maryland Health System in the housekeeping department. He never met a stranger. Above all, he loved the time he spent with his family, especially swimming with his grandchildren. Kim loved the Beach Boys and Elvis, inspiring him in naming his daughter, Lisa.
Kim is survived by his wife of 44 years, Ruth (Arnold) Painter; two daughters, Lisa Mallery and husband, Bryan, and Heather Mackie and husband, Dalton; grandchildren, Kenzie and Maddux Mallery, and Lincoln, Nolan, and Kennie Mackie; sister, Ava (Painter) Jones and husband, Forrest; his half-sister, Marcie (Painter) Smith; along with numerous extended family members. Kim is also survived by his brother's cat, Miss Kitty.
Family will be holding a visitation on Tuesday, February 20, at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave, Cumberland, MD 21502, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Seth Wharton officiating.
