CUMBERLAND – James A. "Swanny" Swann II, 67, of Cumberland, passed away Saturday, August 24, 2024, at UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Born March 24, 1957, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late James A. Swann and Betty Lee (Valentine) Swann. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by several aunts and uncles, and cousin, Sharon Blair, with whom he spent many summers in Baltimore.
Jim was a graduate of Bishop Walsh School, as well as of the Police Academy in Hagerstown, MD. After 40 years of service, he retired as Police Chief for the town of Luke, MD. He was a member of an FOP Lodge in Cumberland.
In his free time, Jim enjoyed bowling. He actually bowled a total of two perfect games in his life. He was a member of the Youth Bowling League, the Wednesday Night White Oaks Men's Industrial League, and the Thursday Night CSX League. Jim also bowled for two seasons in Morgantown, WV. He even served as a past director on the Western Maryland ABC Bowling Board.
When he wasn't bowling, Jim enjoyed golfing. He played every golf course in his favorite destination, Myrtle Beach, SC.
Jim leaves behind his girlfriend of 36 years, Jane L. Stafford; his adopted brothers, Roy, Roger, Dewey, and Dave Stafford, and their families.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Friday, August 30, 2024 from 4 to 7pm.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, August 31, at 11am with Pastor Eric Beeman officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
