CUMBERLAND – James Ronald Thomas, 86, of Cumberland, passed away Friday, June 7, 2024, at the home of his son, Troy and Debbie.
Born May 22, 1938, in Cumberland, he was a son of the late George James and Helen Virginia (Short) Thomas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Diane Thomas.
Jim was a 1956 graduate of Allegany High School and went on to serve his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1956-1958. In 1963, he graduated from Frostburg State University. He worked as a Director of Product Supply for Kelly Springfield (Good Year) Tire Company, eventually retiring after 35 years of service. Jim was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Our Lady of the Mountains Parish, Knights of Columbus Council No. 586, and the Alhambra Wamba Caravan 89.
He is survived by three sons, J. Troy Thomas and wife Debbie, J. Bradford Thomas and wife, Beth, and Ryan M. Thomas and wife, Marcia; one daughter, Jill Mazzeo and husband, Lou; eleven grandchildren, Madeline E. "Maddie" Pelin and husband Scott, Katherine M. "Katy" Mills and husband Greyson, Taylor B. Wendt, Nicholas S. Mazzeo and wife Rachel, Haley K. Wendt, Claire E. Thomas, Kathryn T. "Kate" Thomas, Dominic J. "Dom" Mazzeo, and Lauren Diane Thomas, Matthew M. Thomas and Mary Grace "Gigi" Thomas; two great granddaughters, Ada Grey Mills and Emerson Margaret Pelin; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Thursday, June 13, 2024 from 5-8 P.M. The Christian Wake service will be held at 7:45 P.M.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 300 E Oldtown Rd, Cumberland, on Friday, June 14 2024 at 11 A.M..
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be James Stafford, Brendan and Dane Taylor, Nick and Don Mazzeo, and Matthew Thomas.
