Jane Lee (Frizzell) Roderick, 67 of LaVale, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. Born October 16, 1956 in Baltimore, she was preceded in death by her father and mother, Maurice and Elizabeth "Pearl" (McDonald) Frizzell.
A graduate of Fort Hill High School, Class of '74, Jane attended Frostburg State University, earning her bachelor degree in English education. She taught for 35 years in the Allegany County Public School System.
Jane was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Cumberland, where she served on the church council for several years. As the Evangelism Chairperson, Jane completed many small projects in the church building and was dedicated to a ministry which helped those who were less fortunate. Jane was a devoted wife and mother who loved nothing more than to prepare large meals for her family.
She also loved baking and tending to her house. She was very proud of her husband who is a talented musician. Jane enjoyed reading, biking, skiing and the natural beauty of Allegany County. In the final years of her life, she participated in a clinical trial at The Johns Hopkins Neurological Center in Baltimore.
Jane is survived by her husband of 40 years, James A. Roderick; daughters Neena E. Roderick, California, MD, and Lucille M. Roderick, Forest Hill, MD; sister, Sue (Frizzell) James and husband, Terry, Waynesboro, PA; nieces, Jessica Brown of Waynesboro, PA and Victoria Le and husband Khai of Houston, TX; nephews, Brian Lynch of Scott Depot, WV and Al Lynch III and wife Ashley of Hurricane, WV; and a sister in law, Margaret Lynch and husband Al of Scott Depot, WV. She is also survived by several other cousins and their children.
The family extends its gratitude to those who stood by Jane as she navigated ALS. The care and companionship of close family friend Tiffany Steel, as well as the prayers of those at St. Paul's Church were a great comfort to her. The Neurological Center at Johns Hopkins gave Jane purpose as she navigated ALS.
Visitation will be Sunday, September 15th from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A. 108 Virginia Ave, Cumberland, MD. A funeral service will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church on Monday, September 16th at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Ryan Viands, visitation will be for one hour prior to service.
Interment will be in Davis Memorial Methodist Church cemetery.
