Jane Owen
Wolford
Oct 3, 1941 — Apr 25, 2024
CRESAPTOWN – On April 25, 2024, Jane Owen (Rogers) Wolford went to her heavenly home to be with her Lord and Savior.
Jane was born in Winchester, Va. on October 3, 1941 to the late Ralph and Edith (Slonaker) Rogers and grew up in Three Churches and Capon Bridge, WV. She was the granddaughter of the late Dallas Rogers and Chelsie Greenwalt and Arthur and Carrie Slonaker. In addition to her parents and grandparents, Jane was preceded in death by an infant son, Christopher and a very special aunt, Beulah Baker.
Jane was married to the love of her life, high school sweetheart and faithful caregiver, Gary Lee Wolford for 64 years. She was a 1959 graduate of Capon Bridge High School where she was a cheerleader, band member and majorette. She was also crowned Miss Hampshire County in 1958.
Obtaining her Bachelor's degree from Frostburg State University, Jane followed in the footsteps of her beloved mother by serving others in the field of social work. Jane was employed as the Director of Social Services at Frostburg Village Nursing home for 23 years where she cherished the opportunity to work with and care for the elderly. It was also at Frostburg Village where she formed lifelong friendships with Chelle Broadwater and her best friend of 44 years, Sheila Bruck.
Upon retirement, her greatest pleasure was spending time with the three joys of her life, grandchildren, Skylar, McClairen and Evin. If she wasn't attending one of their events, she was four wheeling at her family farm, writing letters and cards to friends and shut-ins, reading and cheering on the Washington Redskins. Autumn was Jane's favorite season and that was evident by the abundant variety of pumpkins she collected and displayed. Her all-time favorite movie was The Christmas Story and she looked forward to setting up her Christmas Story Village every holiday season. Her friendship circle was large, and she and Gary were able to enjoy many years of vacations, bus trips, concerts, and dinners with many dear friends. As a member of Mount Zion Church in Keyser, Jane enjoyed volunteering her time at Vacation Bible School, the Wild Game Feed and helping out in the nursery. She was also very involved for many years with the Awana program at Calvary Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband, Gary, Jane is survived by her two daughters, Carrie E. Wolford of Keyser, WV, Heather "Hannah" L. Eisenhour and husband Jerry of LaVale, grandchildren Skylar Spanburgh-Merida and husband Andres of Sterling, Va., McClairen Eisenhour and boyfriend Eric and Evin Eisenhour of Cumberland. Her grandchildren lovingly referred to her as "Momma Jane" and "Granmoo."
The family would like to thank Jane's neighbors and friends who were always willing to offer a helping hand when needed; Becky and Rosie McIntyre, Tammie and Carson Yoder, Amanda and Chi Panday, Eldon Fuente, Lori and John Ralston, Gary and Debbie Loar, Pam and Dave Spencer and John Parker.
The family would also like to extend a sincere special thank you to the Cresaptown Volunteer Fire Department, Nurses Kyleigh, Sarah and Karah in High Level Care at UMPC along with Dr. Karan and, Jane's home health caregiver, Sarah.
As Jane's final act of generosity and selflessness, she donated her organs to help heal the lives of many others.
Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, 15205 McMullen Highway SW, Cresaptown on Sunday, May 5 with visitation from 2-4 pm. A service will immediately follow at 4 pm with Pastor Jerry Eisenhour officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cresaptown Volunteer Fire Department, 13113 Warrior Dr., Cumberland, Md. 21502.
