CUMBERLAND – Janet Lynn Barnhouse, 46, of Cumberland, passed away on Wednesday, June 30, 2021, at her residence. Born May 5, 1975, in Montgomery County, MD, she was a daughter of Jennifer A. Shook, of Cumberland, and the father who raised her from birth, the late Ernest Barnhouse. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Genevieve and Paul Shook; uncle, Paul Eugene Shook; nephew, Abel Peterson. Janet was a graduate of Fort Hill High School. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies' Auxiliary, and she enjoyed playing bingo and making crafts. She also enjoyed looking after her adopted dog, Lucy. Most of all, Janet loved helping people. She was always available to her family and friends and truly had a heart of gold. Her mother was her hero, as well as Tonya and Bill, Carlotta, her niece, Angie, and Terry Davis, who was a great help to her. Janet will be sorely missed by her friends and family. Janet leaves behind her mother; sisters, Crystal Rawls, Cumberland, and Tonya Claypoole and husband, William "Bill;" nieces and nephews, Samantha, Korey, and Dominick Davis, Deanna, Amber, and Megan Spencer; one great-niece; two great-nephews; numerous cousins and friends. In accordance with Janet's wishes, her body will be cremated. Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Fuenral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Wednesday, July 7, 2021, from 4 to 6pm. A memorial service will immediately follow at 6pm with Chaplain Bruce McBride officiating.
