Cumberland—Janet Lee Brant, 88, of Cumberland passed away on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at UPMC Western Maryland surrounded by her family.
Born in Cumberland on September 28, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Ernest M. and Adalee (Hough) Schaidt. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard A. L. Brant to whom she was married for 66 years.
Janet was a graduate of Fort Hill High School class of 1954. While in high school, she was a member of the Volleyball and Basketball Teams. Following high school, she was employed at GC Murphy's Candy Counter. She was also employed at the A & P Market on Greene Street. After her marriage, Janet was a loving stay at home mother and wife.
Janet was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, and later was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. At the church, she was active in the Philathea Women's Bible Class, Ladies Group and she would assist in their candy making and craft activities. Janet was also a member of the bereavement and Lentin Luncheon groups at the church.
Janet is survived by her children, Suzette Hardinger and husband Larry, Randy L. Brant and wife Kathy and Marsha Brant and fiancée Fred Yost; grandchildren, Rachel Miller and husband David, Alexandra Felton and husband Brent, Gavin Brant and wife Amanda and Justin Hardinger and wife Tori; great grandchildren, Leah Miller, Addison Miller, Lilly Felton, Jaxson Hardinger, Sydnie Hardinger, Colton Felton, Margot Brant, Maren Brant and Emily Felton; sister, Joan Combs; sister-in-law, Nancy Brant. Janet is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, on Friday, November 22, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1 P.M. with Rev. Harold McClay officiating.
Inurnment in Sunset Memorial Park.
