Obituary

Bel Air Janet L. Dorman, 83, passed away on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at the Western Maryland Health System Hospital, surrounded by her family.Born in Cumberland, MD on May 16, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Margaret "Peg" (McCall) and Theodore "Ted" Stegmaier. In addition to her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Dorman; grandson, David E. Dorman; twin brother, John T. "Jack" Stegmaier; sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Fagan; brothers-in-law, Harry J. DeVore, Donald Mercer, and Phillip Bolinger; and special niece, Barbara Peebles.Mrs. Dorman lived most of her life in Cumberland, MD. She graduated from Catholic Girls Central, she was a member of St. Mary's Church as a child and later a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church and Our Lady of the Mountains until the time of her death. She was an active member serving as a facilitator for a Bible study group in her home and on the bereavement committee. She was a past member of the advisory board at Bishop Walsh High School and PTA of St. Peter & Paul's School.She was the Manager of the Bel Air Townhouses for many years and a former member of the Maplehurst Country Club along with her husband. She served on the Board of Directors and belonged to the Women's Golf Association serving as President and tournament director. She enjoyed playing golf until age 75. Her interest then turned to playing more bridge and joining the ACBL bridge group serving as treasurer of the Cumberland Unit.The joys and loves of her life, along with Ron, were her children, their spouses and grandchildren. She always said, "You would have thought I hand-picked the spouses."Janet is survived by her sons; Ronald J. Dorman and wife Catherine, Ashburn, VA, Eric J. Dorman and wife Lora, Cumberland, Michael S. Dorman and wife Meredith, Raleigh, NC; daughter, Lisa M. Svingos and husband Anthony, Bridgeport, WV; grandchildren, Tyler Dorman, Nicole Dorman, Jacquelyn Dorman, Christopher Spielman and wife Jade, and Hayes Dorman; sister, Eleanor Cannon and husband Mike, Cumberland; brother-in-law, Richard Fagan, Martinsburg, PA; and sisters-in-law, Doris Bolinger, Phoenixville, PA and Sarahann "Susie" Mercer, Brunswick, Ohio.Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 15205 McMullen Hwy SW, Cresaptown, on Thursday, January 17, 2019, from 4-7 P.M. The Christian Wake Service will be held at 7 P.M. at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 18, 2019, at 11 A.M. at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Cresaptown. Pall bearers will be Christopher Spielman, Anthony Svingos, Brian Caporale, Tyler Dorman, Nicole Dorman, Jacquelyn Dorman, and Hayes Dorman.At Janet's request, she will be cremated and her cremains buried in St. Mary's Cemetery at a later date.
