Janet L. Stoops, 85, of Cumberland, MD passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, February 28, 2025 at Allegany Health Nursing and Rehab.

Born March 17, 1939, in Wellersburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Elizabeth DeLozier. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, James B. Stoops; her sisters, Mary Benson and Freda Benson; her former husband, Glen Lafferty; and step grandson, Devin Robinette.

Janet was a 1957 graduate of Fort Hill High School. She went on to become a homemaker and raise her family. Later, she worked to assist tax payers at the local office of the Internal Revenue Service until her retirement.

She was an excellent cook who prepared meals for her family. Janet enjoyed a good card game, and later she could frequently be seen playing the slot machines.

Surviving are her daughters, Glenda Appel and husband Brian "Rege", Susan Pryor and significant other William Brian Skidmore, Jill Brooks, and Tonya Bennett and husband Christopher; stepchildren, Bruce Stoops and wife Lorraine, Suzette Eversole and husband Rick; grandchildren, Christopher, Paul, Tommy, Nathan, Janell, Shawn, Chad, Leah, Logan, and Travis; step grandchildren, Tyler and Haley; numerus great grandchildren; sister, Maxine Furedy; many nieces and nephews; and her special friends, Barbara Rummer and Deborah Lafferty.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 4th from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave, Cumberland.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 5th beginning at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home officiated by Pastor Charles Riggleman. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service.

Burial will follow with her husband at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap, Flintstone, MD.
