CUMBERLAND – Janice R. Harper, 84, of Cumberland, MD, went home on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at Sterling Care Frostburg Village, where she had been a resident.

Born November 17, 1939, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Jewel (Henry) Zawaski. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Frank Zawaski, Jr.

Janice worked as a secretary at Wes-Mar Communications, as well as at BJF Trucking. She was a loving, giving mom who enjoyed her friends, going out to dine (especially enjoying hamburgers and ice cream cones), and shopping. She loved spending time with her close friend, Frances Penrod, and the pair were often mistaken for sisters when they were out on the town.

Janice is survived by two sons, Rick Haines and wife, Betty, and Bryan Harper and wife, Cheryl; four grandchildren, Sean Harper, Kimberly Baumann and husband, Robert, Alison Orlic and husband, Peter, and Gregory Snider; and nine great-grandchildren, Tai, Violet, Damian, Carson, Braylon, Cadence, Olive, Micah, and Kashton.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Friday, August 23, 2024, from 11am to 1pm. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1pm with Pastor Charles Riggleman officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
