Obituary

Janice "Jenny" Ruth Lewis, 85, of Bedford, PA, passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2026 at her sister, Patti's, home.

Born May 1, 1940, in Cumberland, MD, she was the daughter of the late James Thomas Gerald and Ruth Mae (Howdershell) Lewis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Harold Lewis (infant), Andrew "Andy" Lewis, Ronald C. Lewis, James F. Lewis, Geraldine Taylor and her husband, Haze, Thomas G. Lewis and Herbert O. "Butch" Lewis; her nephews, J. David Lewis and Dr. Daniel L. McTaggart.

Jenny was a 1958 graduate of Fort Hill High School. She attended college after graduation and found work in Nashville, TN, for the law firm of Neal & Harwell, PLC. Jenny was attorney, Aubrey B. Harwell's, assistant and dear friend for forty years. She worked with many famous clients, often times becoming their friend. She enjoyed writing stories and reading her Bible. Jenny became a trained counselor for the Rev. Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and was a current member of New Venture Christian Church in Cumberland, MD. Above all else, Jenny loved her family deeply.

Jenny is survived by her siblings, Dorie Duncan of Shaft, MD and Patti McTaggart of Bedford, PA; special nephew, M. Kirk McTaggart and numerous other nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; great- great-nephews, Elijah McTaggart and Caden Dye; great-great niece, Oakley Dye; and many cousins, all of whom will miss her.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, MD, on Thursday, Sept. 24th from 2:00 pm- 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm. A funeral service will be held on Friday, Sept. 25th at the funeral home beginning at 12:00 pm. A visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Jenny's nephew, Pastor Kirk McTaggart, will be officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Following interment, family and loved ones are invited to share a meal celebrating her life at New Venture Christian Church, 10300 Country Club Rd, Cumberland, MD.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Patel, the third floor staff at UPMC, Bedford, PA and the hospice nurses who cared for Jenny.
