Jason Alan
Mccoy
Apr 13, 1976 — Nov 19, 2023
Jason Alan McCoy, 47, of Short Gap, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 19, 2023 peacefully in his home.
Born April 13, 1976, in Cumberland, MD, He was the son of Mark Alan McCoy and the late Sharon Maltba McCoy. He is also preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Ermin and Gladys McCoy, and his maternal grandparents the Ralph and Mary Maltba.
Jason was a graduate of Frankfort High School, Class of 1994 in Short Gap, WV. He then ventured to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to attend the Tulsa Welding School, where he obtained his certification. Upon his return he opened his own business, World Wide Welding. He was determined to make his impression in the trade, building his business from the ground up. His first big job was completed while working under tents. He was proud of his welding career, and the work he completed in the White House, World Bank, George Mason University and numerous other government buildings. The work for George Mason University and the White House was fabricated in Mineral County, WV and he then transported and finished on-site. He was awarded an international contract and traveled to Belize to complete work at the US Embassy. Jason loved the welding trade and excelled in his field. Although he loved his welding career, he loved his family and wanted more time at home. As a career shift, he along with his wife, decided to open a local grocery store, Rt. 28 Discount Grocery, Ridgeley, WV. Jason enjoyed sports and was a die-hard West Virginia Mountaineers fan. He loved motocross and GNCC racing, where he raced in the 250 A class for several years. When he was a teenager, he was the only kid in the neighborhood with a green Kawasaki with a bright pink seat. He also loved coaching t-ball, little league baseball and basketball. He was a past president of Bi-State Little League. He would mow the grass and drag the field before each game, making sure it was nice for the kids. Jason's greatest accomplishment is his family. He married the girl next door, and never looked back. They dated for 3 months; it is said the heart grows fonder with distance and when he picked up Tracie from the airport, he proposed at the luggage carousel; and they were married six weeks later. He was blessed with a son, Chase, who is the light of his life and all of his pride and joy. Jason shares a special bond with his father. They enjoyed going to WVU games, cooking together, and always talking about how to grow the grocery business. He valued the business knowledge his parents shared with him.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Tracie Dawn (Lane) McCoy, and their son, Chase Alan McCoy both of Short Gap, WV. His father, Mark Alan McCoy, Short Gap, WV; one brother, Josh Alan McCoy and his wife Malina, Shepherdstown, WV. Special aunts and uncles, Beth and Richard Allgood, Myrtle Beach, SC; Diane Douglas, Clarksburg, WV; and Jim and Tracy Maltba, Grantsville, MD. Father-in-law, Butch Lane and wife Margie Lane, Short Gap, WV; Brother-in-law, Floyd Lane and wife Ashley Lane, Short Gap, WV. Several nieces and nephews; Breslyn and Harper McCoy; Ashton, Bryson and Sierra Lane. Ashton was special to Jason and he loved attending his sporting events cheering on his, S-Bird; and numerous great aunts, great uncles, cousins and friends.
Friends will be received at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, Short Gap, Friday November 24 from 4:00 until 7:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at Wesley Chapel on Saturday at 10:00 am with a visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow at the Norman Family Cemetery in Clarksburg, WV.
