J. Joanna Bednar, 92, of Cumberland, MD and originally of McConnellsburg, PA, passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at the Cumberland Healthcare Center.

Born December 21, 1932, in McConnellsburg, she was the daughter of the late Donald and Alda Blanche Winegardner. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Michael J. Bednar; son, Jeffrey R. Johnston; brother, Albert Winegardner; sister, Lois Croom; and son-in-law, Jay Oliver.

Joanna was a graduate of Somerville High School in Somerville, NJ. She was a secretary at Rutgers University in New Jersey and retired after 22 years of service. She was a voracious reader and enjoyed bowling. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. At one point in her life, she owned a ceramic shop in McConnellsburg, PA.

Joanna is survived by her daughter, Jody Oliver; her grandchildren, Josey Curley and husband Joe, and Jennifer Ledford and husband Kevin.

In accordance with her wishes, she will be cremated, and inurnment will be with her husband at Union Cemetery, McConnellsburg, PA.
