GERMANTOWN – John Robert Bradfield, 71, of Germantown, MD, formerly of Cumberland, MD, died Sunday, October 22, 2023, at Adventist Healthcare Shady Grove Medical Center.
He was born May 6, 1952, to the late Donald and Wilma (Goodwin) Bradfield.
John was a graduate of Allegany High School and went on to earn degrees from both Allegany College and Frostburg State University. He was employed at Washington Gas and later at Sirius XM Radio.
He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and was also a Mason.
He was a gentle giant and great husband, friend, father, and grandfather. He loved to supervise his sons' woodworking projects, and both Adam and Joshua will always leave the "King's Chair" open while they work for his continued supervision.
John is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Caryl (Hartman) Bradfield; sons, Adam Bradfield and wife Kelly, and Joshua Bradfield; the loves of his life – his grandchildren, Jackson and Noah Bradfield, who referred to John affectionately as "Bubbles"; and his four-legged child, Bandit. He is also survived by his brother, Donald (Candy) Bradfield; sister, Donna (Tom) Willison; niece, Abigail (Charlie) Barton; nephew, Seth (Fallon) Bradfield; and several great-nieces and nephews.
John will be greatly missed by his family, coworkers at Washington Gas who were like family, and his friends who are known as the Lincoln Street Gang in Cumberland.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Monday, October 30, 2023, from 5-8pm. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday, October 31, at 11:30am. Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery, Rocky Gap, Flintstone. Military honors will be accorded by Ft. Cumberland Post 13 Honor Guard.
