CUMBERLAND -- John "Jay" Oliver, 73, of Cumberland, passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at home.

Born April 4, 1949, in California, he was the son of the late Joy and John Leer Oliver.

Jay moved to Cumberland when he was five and was a graduate of Fort Hill High School. He served his country in the United States Army Reserves and graduated from the University of Maryland.

Jay returned to Cumberland after college and was the City of Cumberland Community Development Director for over 30 years. He was a member of the Corvette Club, volleyball club and the Toys for Happiness President. Jay loved his mall walks, his sneakers, and catching up with his many friends. He will be sadly missed and will always hold a place in our hearts.

Jay leaves behind his wife, Jody Oliver; daughters, Josey Curley and Jennifer Ledford; sons-in-law Joe Curley and Kevin Ledford.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, MD, on Friday, March 3, 2023, from noon to 1pm. A memorial service will immediately follow at 1pm with Pastor Carolyn Yacenech officiating. There will be a private ceremony to spread Jay's ashes at a later date.
