LAVALE John Griffin Steiner, 67, of LaVale, passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2019.Born on November 11, 1951, he was the son of the late John W. and Mary Winifred Steiner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, George K. Steiner; and nephew, Tyler L. Steiner.John was a 1969 graduate of Bishop Walsh High School. Following high school, he attended and graduated from Frostburg State University. After graduating college, John went to work for the Cumberland Concrete Corporation, where he worked his way up from an entry-level job to eventually becoming owner of the business. He spent many years coaching boys' and girls' basketball teams, and enjoyed golfing. John loved attending his grandchildren's various extracurricular activities. He was an avid Yankees, Colts, and Notre Dame fan.John was a member and past Grand Commander of the Alhambra Wamba Caravan 89. He was a member of the Knight of Columbus Council #586.He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Marsha (Williams) Steiner; son, Ryan W. Steiner; daughter, Audrey Shrieves and husband Aaron; sister, Mary Robin Detrick and husband Paul; grandchildren, Marisa C. Steiner, and Carson R. Steiner; nephews, Griffin Detrick and wife Karen, and Chad Steiner; and niece, Chloe Detrick.Family and friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Sunday, June 2, 2019, from 2 to 5 p.m. Christian Wake and Crescent Services will be conducted at the conclusion of visitation.Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 125 Fayette Street, Cumberland, on Monday, June 3, 2019 at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery.Condolences for the family may be left at www.ScarpelliFH.com
