Obituary

John Clyde Walker was born September 6, 1935 in Cumberland, Maryland, and passed from this life December 23, 2021, from Covid complications in Abilene, Texas. He was the only child born to John Louis Walker and Thelma Arminta Holler Walker. He was a 1953 graduate of Fort Hill High School in Cumberland. The majority of his working life was spent in the construction industry, first building homes and then moving into commercial construction and traveling nationwide for several general contractors. John officially retired in 2008 and enjoyed spending time in the mountains of Colorado watching wildlife and with his Masonic Brothers and Eastern Star Sisters and Brothers. He was a 50 plus year member and Past Master of Queen City No. 131 Masonic Lodge in Cumberland, Maryland. At the time of his passing he was also a member of Bellville No. 223 Masonic Lodge in Bellville, Texas and DeSoto No. 1409 Masonic Lodge in DeSoto, Texas. John was an active member of Abilene Chapter No. 30 Order of the Eastern Star in Abilene, Texas where he was serving as Warder. He was a Past Patron of Lancaster Chapter No. 943 O.E.S. in Lancaster, Texas and Brenham Chapter No. 144 O.E.S. in Brenham, Texas. John will be greatly missed by his survivors who include; his wife Jan Clark Walker of Abilene, Texas, two sons John Allan and Glenn Randolph "Randy" Walker both of Cumberland, Maryland, a daughter Lisa Ann McMahon of Burke, Virginia, four granddaughters, two grandsons, six great-granddaughters, one great-grandson, stepson Chris Dobbs and his family of Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee, numerous cousins, brother-in-law Johnny Clark and wife Kay of Mountain Home, Arkansas, his Masonic Brothers and Eastern Star Sisters and Brothers, many friends across the country, and Roxe and Bella, the crazy cats that have taken over his recliner. A celebration of John's life will be held April 23, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A. 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, Maryland. Family and friends will be received at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Interment will be beside his parents in Lybarger Cemetery in Madley, Pennsylvania. Cremation was handled by Girdner Funeral Home in Abilene, Texas. Memorials may be made to Patriot Paws Service Dogs, 254 Ranch Trail, Rockwall, TX 75032 (which provides service dogs to veterans—a project that was very important to John) or Queen City No. 131 Masonic Lodge, 15 Greene Street, Cumberland, MD 21502.
