CUMBERLAND -- Joseph W. Friend, Sr., 67, of Cumberland, passed away Sunday, January 8, 2017, at Lions Center for Rehabilitation and Extended Care.Born May 27, 1949, he was the son of the late Eugene Friend and Josephine (Shanholtz) Friend. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Albert Friend; and grandson, Kevin Vollmerhausen.Joe is survived by three daughters, Stacey, Crystal, and Jessica Friend; one son, Joseph Friend Jr.; one step-son, Joshua Holtschneider; four granddaughters, Lindsey and Alison Vollmerhausen, Shae Livengood,and Emily Riggleman; three grandsons, Trenton Miller, Gage Livengood, and Joseph Friend, III; one great-grandson, Alexzander D'Atri; four step-granddaughters; and three brothers, Edward, Ronald, and James Friend.Joe retired from Berry Plastics after working there for many years. He devoted 17 years to the S. Schwab Company and many years of service to Biederlack.He enjoyed walking, playing cards and horseshoes, and lifting weights. He could be found attending "Fridayafter Five" on the downtown mall most weekends. Joe was the "Babe" of five brothers. Spending time with them, his children and grandchildren brought him much joy. Joe was also content spending time inhisgarage. Having a natural mechanical ability, he fixed or repaired most anything as a hobby.Joe's handsome smile and friendly personality will be missed by all those who shared his life and friendship.In accordance with Joe's wishes, his body was cremated. Visitation and funeral services took place at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave, Cumberland, on Friday, January 13, 2017. Rev. Harold R.
