Rehoboth Beach—Judith Ann "Judy" Stevens, 69, of Rehoboth Beach, DE, her happy place, formerly of Cumberland, passed away at the Beebe Hospital in Lewes, DE, on Thursday, March 3, 2022. Born in Cumberland, MD, on April 11, 1952, she was the daughter of the late Leonard Franklin and Anna Margaret (Welsh) Stevens. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her life partner, Donna Furstenberg; sister-in-law, Susan Hovatter; nephew, John Bradley Stevens; and great-niece, Brittany Stevens. Judy was a graduate of Bishop Walsh High School, class of 1970. Following high school, she attended Catherman's Business School. Judy was retired from Overnite Express, where she work in both Cumberland and New Jersey. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Our Lady of the Mountains Parish. An active athlete in high school, Judy was a local tournament tennis player. She coached basketball, and she was a Pittsburgh Steelers Football fan. Judy remained very social with her high school friends, calling themselves "The B.W. Babes." Judy is survived by her brothers, John Stevens and wife Patricia, Michael Stevens and wife Leslie, and Dennis Stevens and wife Patricia; nephews, Kevin Stevens and wife Jennifer, Patrick Stevens and wife Krista, Scott Stevens and wife Vicki, Christopher Stevens, and Daniel Stevens and wife Nicole; nieces, Katherine Stevens and Steve Westerholt, and Laura Stevens; best friend and neighbor, Kathryn "Doodle" Kravit-Smith and wife Susan; special friend, Nanci Spano; 10 great-nieces and nephews; 2 great-great nieces; and many cousins and good friends. Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A, 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Sunday, March 13, 2022, from 4-6 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 201 N Centre Street, Cumberland, on Monday, March 14, 2022, at 10 A.M. Burial will be held at St. Mary Cemetery. In lieu of sending flowers, those wishing to honor Judy's memory may do so by making contributions to Bishop Walsh School, 700 Bishop Walsh Road, Cumberland, MD 21502; The American Heart Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692; or The American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116-7023. The family would like to thank Mary Ann and Denny Carolan, Joan Esworthy, Danny Thompson, Rich Dougherty, as well as her high school friends residing at the beach for their help during Judy's illnesses. Judy lived with chronic health issues, managed them bravely, and always remained an optimist.
