Mount Savage—Karen Sue Shoemaker, 60, of Mount Savage passed away on Saturday, November 13, 2021, at the UPMC Western Maryland Hospital. Born in Frostburg, MD on May 1, 1961, she was the daughter of the late, Carl William McKenzie and Norma Lee (Burkett) Mc Kenzie who resides in Frostburg. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her mother and father-in-law, Donald and Charlotte (Horwath) Shoemaker. Karen was a graduate of Mt. Savage High School class of 1980. She then graduated from Columbia Union College in Tacoma Park, MD with a degree in education. Karen was a teacher in Silver Spring, MD, and she was locally the owner of JK & S Cleaning Service. Karen enjoyed being around her family especially the loves of her life her grandchildren. She was known for helping out anyone she could. She was known as the neighborhood mother. In addition to her mother, Karen is survived by her husband Larry Donald Shoemaker; children, Jason Bryan Shoemaker and Olivia Hyson, and Britnay Shoemaker and husband Aric Wagner; grandchildren, Aedan Wagner, Mia Wagner, Tia Shoemaker, Drayke Wannamaker; sisters, Brenda Sturtz and husband Lou, and Diane McKenzie; brothers, Allen McKenzie and wife Gail, and Bill McKenzie and wife Sherry; many nephews and nieces whom she loved dearly. At Karen's request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A celebration of Karen's life will be held at the Barrelville Outdoor Club on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at 1 p.m. Condolences may be left at www.ScarpelliFH.com
