Kenneth Allen Pratt, 51, of Cumberland, passed away Sunday, January 8, 2017.Born August 3, 1965, in Cumberland, MD. Mr. Pratt was the son of the late Joseph William Pratt and Della Violet (Busch) Pratt. A graduate of Fort Hill High School, class of 1983, he was a percussionist in the Sentinels marching and concert bands. He was graduated from Allegany College of Maryland with an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Computer Science andTechnology - Network Option in 1999."Kenny" was a friendly, gentle soul whose passion in life was music. An accomplished drummer, guitarist and vocalist, he was a member of several local rock bands beginning in the early 1980's up until recently. The groups included Sweet Cheeter, Cat House, The Gus Smiley Show, Kramer and Idiots Rule. He liked to spend time listening to the music he loved, jamming with friends, figuring out chords to songs and seeing his favorite bands live. In his youth, he was a skateboarding enthusiast and played baseball for the Cubs in the Dapper Dan League. He was an avid sports fan rooting for the city, area college and pro teams-- most notably the Pirates, Steelers and the Baltimore Colts. Although an infrequent golfer, his game was respectable, and his companionship was always treasured by his brothers. "Release the Krakken," he would yell when he nailed a good drive! On top of making his living playing music, he had been employed at the George Washington University as a cameraman and recently at Da Vincis in Cumberland.He is survived by four brothers and two sisters, Joseph Francis Pratt and his wife, Linda, Kensington, CA; William Thomas Pratt and his wife, Sue, Baltimore, MD; Nancy Elaine Pratt, Vacaville, CA; Sally Elizabeth Shreve, Cumberland; Theodore Robert Pratt, San Mateo, CA and James David Pratt, Cumberland; three nieces, Vanessa Pratt, Kaela Pratt and Marley Pratt and two nephews, Kyle Pratt and Tyler Shreve.Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, MD onSunday, January 22, 2017 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life at4:00 p.m.Interment will be in the Saint Mary's Cemetery next to his parents.Parts of Kenneth's body were donated for scientific research to the Lieber Institute, an affiliate of Johns Hopkins.
