Laurence Edward Crossland, age 82, passed June 7, 2023 at his home near Midland.

He was born March 31, 1941 in Albert, West Virginia, to the late Edward Crossland and

Elizabeth Cosner Crossland.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Lois (Miller) Crossland, whom were marred on November 12,

1966. He is survived by his children, son Ed (and wife Patricia) Crossland, Cumberland; son Harry (and

wife Shelly) of Frostburg, and daughter, Chaise Crossland, of Frostburg. He is survived by grandchildren

Christopher Emerick, Cresaptown; Colleen (and husband Cody) Hovatter, Frostburg, Edward Crossland,

Frostburg; Larry, Ethan and Hana Jean Crossland of Frostburg, as well as several step grandchildren. He

is also survived by his sister Patricia Wrigley of Godfrey, Illinois and Ellen Lee of Seaford, Delaware. Also

surviving are brother-in-law Ed (and wife Mary) Miller, Clarkton, North Carolina; Jean (and husband

John) Marchione of Cumberland; Suzie Zeiders of Bartlesville Oklahoma; Sally (and husband Clark)

Valentiner of Harrells, North Carolina; and Judy Miller, Frostburg.

A 1959 graduate of Bruce High School in Westernport, he served in the United States Air Force

from 1962-1966 with three years stationed at the Chateau Air Force Base in France. He then graduated

Potomac State College in 1968 and began a career with the Celanese Corporation in Cumberland, and

retired in 1997 as a corporate Special Project Leader in Charlotte, North Carolina. Upon his retirement

he and his wife farmed raising and breeding Angus cattle as well as farming with his son.

Active in the community, he served as a board member of the Farm Service Agency, the Allegany

County Solid Waste Management board and Allegany County 4-H and Extension Advisory Board. He also

served two terms on the Board of Directors of the Southern States Cooperative. He was a member of

the George's Creek Masonic Lodge, Barton American Legion, Allegany County Farm Bureau and

American Angus Association.

He accepted Christ at a young age and very humbly walked that path through his life. He

attended Grace Community Church at the time of his passing, and had previously attended Grace United

Methodist Church, Midland, where he served in several leadership roles.

His family wishes to acknowledge and thank the wonderful and compassionate care he has

received during the past five years from Dr. Kevin Shannon MD and the nurses and staff of the cancer

institutes of both WVU-Garrett Regional Medical Center and WVU-Potomac Valley Hospital. At the end

of his life the Hospice of Western Maryland were truly angels for his final days in providing care.

As an expression of gratitude for his care and the continued treatment of those suffering with

cancer, he and his family were pleased to dedicate the Crossland Cancer Center at WVU-Potomac Valley

Hospital, Keyser in September, 2022.

Friends and family will be received on Saturday, June 10, 2023 at Grace Community Church,

Seton Drive, Cumberland, from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. with services following at 12:30 p.m. at the

church with Rev. Harry Burchell officiating. Internment will be with military honors at Frostburg

Memorial Park. Arrangements are being handled by Scarpelli Funeral Home.
