CUMBERLAND Laurence Eugene "Larry" Parkinson, 85, of Cumberland, passed away Monday, February 4, 2019, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.Born August 21, 1933, in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, he was the son of the late James and Ella Parkinson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon (Smith) Parkinson and several brothers and sisters. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.Larry served his country as a Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy. After retiring from a career in the military, he worked for many years at the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration. Larry was an avid bowler at White Oaks Lanes and was a member of the American Bowling Congress. He was a regular at trivia night at Mezzo's, and he was a member of Fort Cumberland Post 13 American Legion.Larry is survived by his daughter, Laura M. Parkinson, Cumberland; numerous nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Hazel Parkinson.Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Monday, February 11, 2019, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1 p.m. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Military honors will be accorded by the Fort Cumberland Post 13 Honor Guard.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the ASPCA, American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (https://secure.aspca.org/donate).Condolences for the family may be left at www.ScarpelliFH.com.
