LAVALE - Lawrence Patrick McGreevy, 64, went to be with the Lord, Friday, April 22, 2022, at home surrounded by his loving and loyal family and friends. Born November 26, 1957, he was the son of Eugene James and Carolyn Lorean (Murray) McGreevy. A 1975 graduate of Bishop Walsh, he went on to attend Frostburg State University, West Virginia University, and Mount Saint Mary's University, earning Accounting and Master of Business and Administration degrees. Larry became a certified public accountant and a certified financial planner, and combined his education and entrepreneurial instincts to build a financial planning business. His office on the mall in Downtown Cumberland was a regular stop for clients and friends with whom Larry shared his expertise and good humor. Larry was a devoted spouse, father, and grandfather. He maintained many lifelong friendships and especially enjoyed reminiscing about growing up in North Cumberland and talking with classmates about his days of playing football at Bishop Walsh. (They often marveled that more of them hadn't wound up in jail). Deeply devoted to his Christian faith, he sought to live and model it in every aspect of his life. Larry had a very calm demeanor, and readily shared a smile and friendly banter with everyone he encountered. Following the discovery of a brain tumor 19 years ago, Larry and family accepted his diagnosis while valiantly fighting its steady progression. He maintained his appreciative, positive outlook, praying regularly for himself and others. Larry was a member of Our Lady of the Mountains Parish, Saint Patrick Church, Cumberland. He was also a member of the Cumberland Chamber of Commerce, and regularly attended their functions. Larry is survived by his loyal and devoted spouse, DeEtta (Growden) McGreevy; sister, Mitzi Giles (Mark); brother, Matt McGreevy (Shawna); son, Patrick McGreevy; daughters, Stephanie EauClair, and Tara Keller; and many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. In accordance with his wishes, he will be cremated. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 201 N Centre Street, Cumberland, on Friday, May 13, 2022, at 3 p.m. The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Our Lady of the Mountains Parish, 300 E Oldtown Road Ste #2, Cumberland, MD 21502; or to a local food assistance program.
