Leonard "Buck" Alpheous McKenzie, Jr., 85, of LaVale, passed away on Monday, December 8, 2025 at Hilltop Assisted Living in Winchester, VA.
Born March 2, 1940, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Harriet Frances (Carolan) McKenzie and Leonard Alpheous McKenzie, Sr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Janet Lee (Sell) McKenzie; sister, June Ann McKenzie; brothers-in-law, James Lynn Sell, Ronald H. Whetsell Sr., and his niece, Karin Sell.
Leonard graduated LaSalle High School. After high school, he joined the Army Reserves. He worked and retired from Kelly Springfield Tire and Rubber Company.
Leonard enjoyed Lionel trains and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a member of the Cresaptown Eagles and the Knights of Columbus. Leonard was also a member of the Cumberland Moose and the American Legion. He attended St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Leonard was an avid Notre Dame Fan.
Leonard is survived by his two daughters, Kathryn McKenzie and Jennifer Wilhelm and husband Steven; three loving grandchildren, Seth Brackett, Brooke Wilhelm, and Breanna Wilhelm; great-grandchildren, Tori Duck, Mavis Brackett, and Amelia Brackett; sisters, Dorothy Whetsell, and Mary DaValli and husband Paul; siblings-in-law, Paul Sell and wife Diane and Sally Chapman; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland on Thursday, December 11, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Patrick's Church, 201 N Centre St, Cumberland, MD 21502 on Thursday, December 11, 2025 at 1:00 pm with Fr. Steve Fernades, OFM Cap. officiating.
Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens with his loving wife. Military honors will be accorded by the Fort Cumberland Post 13 Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for contributions to be made to Meals on Wheels, 125 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, MD 21502 and Friends Aware, 1601 Holland St, Cumberland, MD 21502 in honor of Leonard's memory.
