Cumberland Lester Eugene "Bill" Haines, 88, of Cumberland, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2019.Born in Points, West Virginia, on November 10, 1930, he was the son of the late Virgie Haines. Bill was also preceded in death by his wife, Edith (Messick) Haines; step-son, Jeff Bauman; granddaughter, Bonnie Kennell; grandson, Buster Barnes.Bill was employed at RPS Auto Supplies, and he was the former owner of Virgie's Tavern on Ford Avenue in Cumberland for 40 years.He was a member of Henry Hart Post 1411 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Fort Cumberland Post 13 American Legion, Cresaptown Eagles, Cumberland Moose Lodge, Goodfellowship Club, and a life member of the DAV Ft. Washington Post 2.He is survived by his fianc, Stella Bauman Neilson; daughter, Sandy Smith of Cumberland; son, Alvin "Bubby" Barnes and wife Phyllis, Points, West Virginia; step-children, Debbie Smith and husband Randy, Bedford, PA, Kim Morlen and husband Danny, Wiley Ford, West Virginia, Michael Bauman and wife Michelle, Claysburg, PA, and Steve Bauman, Cumberland; a special four-year-old angel, Whitney Richard, Mt. Savage; and his best buddy, Dan Buzzard, Cumberland. Bill is also survived by eleven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Monday, May 6, 2019 from 5-7 P.M. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at 11 A.M. with Pastor Denny Michael officiating. Burial will take place at Davis Memorial Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded at the gravesite by Ft. Cumberland Post 13 Honor Guard.Condolences for the family may be left at www.ScarpelliFH.com.
