CUMBERLAND – Lois Elizabeth Miltenberger, 83, of Cumberland, passed away Saturday, August 31, 2024, at home.
Born October 20, 1940, in Cumberland, she was a daughter of the late James Edward Miltenberger and Mary Agnes (Rephann) Miltenberger. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Dr. Fred Miltenberger, James Edward Miltenberger, James Aloysius Miltenberger, and Paul Alfred Miltenberger; sisters, Marlene Miltenberger, Pauline Agnes Miltenberger, Ursula Marie Miltenberger, and Karen Joan Bundy; brother-in-law, Robert Grabenstein; special friend, John Ankeney.
Lois was the president of her graduating class at Ursuline Academy. She went on to attend Concord University, and then graduate from Potomac State College with a degree in medical technology. She worked as a medical technologist at Memorial Hospital, then Sacred Heart Hospital, and finally at UPMC Western Maryland. After many years of service, she retired and participated in the Retired Hospital Employees group. A supporter of education and healthcare, Lois donated to West Virginia University Foundation.
As a longtime member of the Shrine of Saints Peter and Paul, Lois was an active member of Our Lady of the Mountains Parish. She served as a Eucharistic Minister for sickly parishioners and was a member of the Bereavement Committee for the parish. She also volunteered her time to the St. Anthony Place Food Pantry.
She cared deeply for animals as well, having volunteered at the Allegany County Animal Shelter and donated to the Mineral County Humane Society. In fact, Lois was even a life member of the 4-H All Stars.
A woman of many talents and interests, Lois was also an active member of Creative Needle Quilters.
Lois leaves behind her siblings, Louis Edward Miltenberger (Marcia), Michael Joseph Miltenberger (Connie), Mary Ellen Grabenstein, and Karol Jean Bradshaw (Darrell); sisters-in-law, Mary Miltenberger, Marlie Miltenberger, and Linda Dolly; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Friday, September 6, 2024 from 6 to 8pm.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Shrine of Saints Peter and Paul on Saturday, September 7, at 11am.
Interment will be private in Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations can be made to the Schwab Family Cancer Center, 12500 Willowbrook Road, Cumberland, MD 21502; the Allegany County Animal Shelter, P.O.
