Loretta Mae (Blauch) Thomas, 88, of Short Gap, WV, passed away in the early hours of Saturday, August 8, 2026 with family by her side. She was born February 3, 1938 in Short Gap and was the 8th of 10 children born to the late Bruce Sr and Ethel Blauch.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl C. Thomas; her sisters, Evelyn Hiett and Margaret Ward; and her brothers, Haven, John, Homer, Tom, George, and Bruce Jr.

She is survived by her sister, Darlene Gulino; daughter, Karen Thomas and husband Dave Creegan; son, Michael Thomas (Andrea); granddaughters, Kaitlyn (Kevin) who was the light of her world and Kristyn Thomas; great-grandchildren, Carly Rinehart and Indica Thomas; step-granddaughter, Emily Creegan; her special friends, Gary and Brenda Cooper, and Paul Alkire for always shoveling her drive in the winter; niece and chaos coordinator, Jody Christian (Craig); and her large extended family including many nieces and nephews.

Loretta graduated from Fort Ashby High School in 1956 and moved to Falls Church, VA where she met her husband Carl Thomas. They eventually retired back to Short Gap, WV in 1983. From the beginning, Loretta was a tireless supporter and member of the Frankfort District Historical Society. She was a former member of the Short Gap Vol. Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary. She was a devoted attendee of Grace Bible Fellowship and her faith was a powerful guidance in her life. She was an avid word search lover and spent much time with her sister Darlene solving jigsaw puzzles. She loved hummingbirds and had a special place in her heart for two dogs Trey and Starbuck.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, August 12th beginning at 2pm at Pinto Mennonite Cemetery, Pinto Hill Rd SW, Cresaptown, MD with Pastor Brent Biller officiating.
