Cumberland—Luke M. "Lucky" Bridges, 94, of Cumberland, MD, passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2020, at his home, surrounded by his family. Born in Beans Cove, PA, on June 18, 1925, he was the son of the late Dorothy (Donahue) and Robert F. Bridges. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth (Humbertson) Turner Bridges; grandson, Henry Davis, Jr.; and a great great-grandson; brothers, Robert, Richard, Paul, and David; and sisters, Elizabeth, Lucy, Marian, and Angela. Lucky joined the United States Navy when he was 17 years old, during World War II, where he served his country for 8 years. In the Navy, he served on the USS Weber. Upon his discharge, he was hired by the Kelly Springfield Tire Company in Cumberland. Lucky retired from the Kelly after 35 years of service. He was a Catholic by faith, and was a member of the American Legion Fort Cumberland Post 13, VFW Henry Hart Post 1411, and the Goodfellowship Club. Lucky enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping on the Capon River. He is survived by his daughters, Shirley Davis, Betty Davis and husband Henry, Etta Jo Dolan and husband Calvin, and Barbara Norris and husband Ray; grandchildren, Gloria Malcolm and husband Kenny, Mary Passmore and husband John, Sally Appleby and husband Chris, Susie Allen and husband Bob, Jimmy Norris and wife Cindy, Lorie Ann Shipway and husband Kent, Cindy Sowers and husband Vernon, and Becky Dolan; 15 great-grandchildren, numerous great-great and great great-great-grandchildren; brother, Mathew Bridges and wife Rita; sisters, Vivian Corbet, and Bernita Spore; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be sent to Oliver's Grove United Methodist Church, 15500 Walnut Ridge Rd SE, Oldtown, MD 21555. Due to the current health care considerations, all funeral services will be private. Interment will be in the Maryland State Veteran's Cemetery, Rocky Gap.
