LaVale—Margaret K. "Margie" McFarland, 85, of LaVale, passed away on Sunday, February 20, 2022, at the UPMC Western Maryland Health Center. Born on March 9, 1936, in Berkley Springs, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late, Margaret Gertrude (Silver) and Elmer Porter Clark. Although according to her Uncle Conrad, she was found under a cabbage leaf washed in from the 1936 flood. In addition to her parents, Margie was preceded in death by her husband, John William McFarland; granddaughter, Heather McFarland; sister, Geraldine Aaron; niece, Sandra Cronin. Margie was a graduate of Berkley Springs High School, and she had attended Shepherd College. In addition to being a wife, mother, and homemaker, she was employed by the Allegany County Sheriff's Department where she obtained the rank of Sergeant. In that capacity, Margie was the ranking officer of the Allegany County Jail. For her work at the jail, Margie received many employee awards for her service. Margie was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and had volunteered with the Girl Scouts. She was a member of many local bowling leagues and enjoyed dancing at the Shrine Club. Margie enjoyed road trips and telling "Tall Tales," especially those about her dating George Washington and William Shakespeare. She was a very generous person who sponsored a young child in Uganda and made contributions toward the care of many other children in that area. Surviving are her children, J. Michael McFarland and wife, Sharlene, C. Ann Hoover and husband, Randy, and Tricia Melville and husband, Neil; grandchildren, John Michael McFarland and wife, Alice, Robyn Mejia and husband, Ruben, Rachael Tayler and husband, Scott, Megan McFarland and fiancé, Belleh Fontem, William Hoover and wife, Karen, Mylissa Tickoo and husband, Pankaj, Grace Melville, Quinn Melville, and Naomi Melville; foster grandchild, Nathan Davis; great-grandchildren, John, Alicia, Matthew, Christopher, Grace, and Lily McFarland, Keith and Carmen Mejia-Hoover, Josiah, Abraham, and Gabriel McFarland, Adrian and Louis Hoover; nieces, Beth Griffith and husband George, and Barbara Blum; nephew, Michael Aaron and wife, Suzanne. Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 15205 McMullen Hwy SW, Cresaptown, on Thursday, February 24, 2022 from 3-7 P.M. A funeral service will immediately follow at 7 P.M. An interment service will be conducted at Sunset Memorial Park on Friday, February 25, at 10 A.M. The family has requested that those attending the visitation or funeral service please wear a mask.
