Obituary

GRANTSVILLE – Mary Dorothy Bryson passed away peacefully on February 18, 2022, at the age of 96. She was born on December 13, 1925, the third of five children, to John and Eva (Frankenberry) Shaffer, of Mt. Savage. Mary was a beautiful person with a heart that overflowed with love for her family. She was a kind and caring person to everyone she met. Mary retired from 20 years of service at Allegany County HRDC in 2003, where she worked for many years as an adult day care aid, and later at Willow Valley Apartments. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, James Bryson; daughter, Patricia Perry; son, Ernest "Butch" Bryson and wife, Brenda (Slater) Bryson; three brothers, Edward Shaffer, James Shaffer, and Harold Shaffer; one sister, Effie Hughes. Surviving is her daughter, Mary Faye Lease and husband, Bob; son-in-law, Gregory Perry; five grandchildren, Amy Vanmeter and significant other, Keith, Gabriel Perry, Tina Hall and significant other, Chris, Sarah Pannone and husband, Jason, and Amanda Cook and husband, Don; nine great-grandchildren, Jaden Keough and fiancée, Naomi, Jordan Keough and significant other, Sarah, Zachary Hall and wife, Courtney, Lindsey Hall, Lucas Loretto, Bryce Pannone, Gavin Cook, Amelia Pannone, and Ella Cook; and one great-great-granddaughter, Marissa Hall. Also surviving is brother-in-law, George Hughes; sisters-in-law, Betty Ann Shaffer and Helen Shaffer Blank; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends. The family wishes to thank the Goodwill Mennonite Home and the staff of Memory Lane specifically for their love, care, and compassion for Mary and her family. We are truly grateful to all of you. Box 566 Cumberland, MD 21501-0566, as Mary was an animal lover and know to spoil a few over the years. Also, the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601, to further treatment and a cure. Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Friday, February 25, 2022, from 11am to 12pm. A memorial service will immediately follow at 12pm.
