CUMBERLAND – Mary Ann Eckard, 77, of Cumberland, MD, died at UPMC Western Maryland on Monday evening, September 20, 2021.
Mary Ann was born in Williamsport, PA, on July 6, 1944, to Delmont Pittinger and Mary Petrof Pittinger. She received her ASN, RN from Allegany College of Maryland and her BSN from University of Maryland. Mary Ann was inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, University of Maryland in May 1990.
Mary Ann served as a registered nurse at Memorial Hospital for many years. She dedicated her career to serving others.
Mary Ann married Bruce Daniel Eckard on September 17, 1964. She was a devoted wife and mother to eight children. Mary Ann was dedicated to her family and participated as an active member of St. Mary's Church, Our Lady of the Mountain Parish. She was an active member of the Third Order of Saint Francis, Secular Franciscans, Padre Pio Fraternity and a member of the Blue Army. Mary Ann was an advocate for education and a role model for mothers. In May 1993, Mary Ann and family were recognized by Allegany College of Maryland for dedication, commitment, and support of educational goals, career aspirations, and personal enrichment.
Mary Ann is survived by her husband, Bruce and her children, Ann Shipway, husband Tim, Virginia Baker, husband Ralph, Daniel Eckard, wife Carla, John Eckard, wife Virginia, Teresa Kutschke, husband Walter, Mary Lou Coyle, husband John, Catherine Dormarunno, husband Matt, and Angela Eckard, and 23 grandchildren.
Friends and guests will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Monday, September 27, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 300 E Oldtown Road, Cumberland, on Tuesday, September 28, at 10 a.m. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
