CUMBERLAND, MD Mary Ellen Harrison, of Cumberland, went home to the Lord on Tuesday, January 1, 2019, at Frostburg Village Nursing Home.Born March 21, 1923 in Washington IN, she was the daughter of the late Carl B. Welch Sr., and Maude H. (Reed) Welch Kuhn. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Alvin Harrison; eldest son, James Carl (J.C.) Harrison; brother, Carl B. Welch, Jr.; step-father, Henry W. Kuhn; step-mother, Florence Chapman Welch and step-sister, Harriett Satterfield.Mrs. Harrison was a former clerk in the accounting department at the Chessie System, and was later employed as a bookkeeper at Taylor Lumber Co. She was a graduate of Keyser High School, class of 1942, and Ursuline Business School in 1943. A member SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church and church choir, September Singers, Meals-on-Wheels, Friends Aware Social Committee, volunteer at St. Anthony's Place, and the Cumberland VA Clinic. She was a life member of both the VFW Henry Hart Post Ladies Auxiliary 1411, and the Ladies Auxiliary DAV, Washington Unit #2.Surviving are one daughter, Pamela J. Harrison, Cumberland MD; daughter-in-law Linda A. (Schoonover) Harrison, Mooresville NC; two foster daughters, Pat Laughlin, Cumberland MD and Barbara Nicholson and husband Jeff, Rawlings MD; Goddaughter, Denise Beattie Graham, Easthampton MA; two sons, Retired TSgt Rawland R. Harrison and wife Kath, Baileys Harbor WI; Ret MSgt David K. Harrison and wife Becky, Lebanon IL.; two Godsons, Steven Harrison, Dallas TX and Eric J. Harrison and wife Jen, Westminster MD; three grandchildren James A. Harrison, Kelly A. Harrison, and Megan E. Harrison; one great-grandson, Seth A. Harrison; sisters-in-law Joan Harrison, Frostburg MD and M.
