CUMBERLAND – Mary Ellen Johnson, 88, of Cumberland, was reunited with her husband and best friend on Thursday, July 20, 2023.

Born November 29, 1934, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late August Carl Tribut and Mary Ellen Tribut Yonker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her dearly missed husband, Donald F. Johnson, Sr.; brothers, Carl Tribut and Thomas Tribut.

Mary Ellen attended Allegany High School and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Our Lady of the Mountains Parish. In years past, she was a member of the Cumberland Moose, along with her husband. She loved to tend to her flower garden. Most importantly though, she lived for her family. No one around her went hungry, and she was always present and available for her children and grandchildren.

Mary Ellen is survived by her children, Diana Wilson and husband, Melvin, and Donald Johnson, Jr. and wife, Jill; grandchildren, Miranda Johnson, Lauren Bennett and husband, Matt, Brandon Wilson and wife, Neela; many loved great-grandchildren; brother, John Tribut and wife, Carol; a number of nieces and nephews. She was the most loving wife, mother (best friend), grandmother, and great-grandmother anyone could ask for.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at 11am. Interment will be in the MD State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap with her husband.

Pallbearers will be Gavin Lockhart, Brandon Wilson, Melvin Wilson, and Matthew Bennett.
