Obituary

Mary "Joann" Marker 86, of Short Gap WV, passed away peacefully from this life into eternal life and into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Monday, June 10th, 2024.

She was born on March 29, 1938 in Cumberland Md. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Pauline Patton Knepp Turner.

Joann is survived by her husband of 67 years, Harold P. "Jake" Marker. She is also survived by her children, Harold "Jake" Marker III (Kim), J. Dawn McFarland (Larry) and R, Scott Marker (Stuart Ortel); her grandchildren, Joseph Paul "JP" Marker, Lauren Renee Fridley (Daniel) and great-grandchildren, Parker Grahm Fridley and Ainslee Bell Fridley, who along with JP and Lauren, were the light of her life.

Joann was a 1956 graduate of Allegany High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Jake, in 1956, and he was by her bedside when she passed. Joann was a homemaker until her children were teenagers. She worked as a Phlebotomist at Sacred Heart Hospital for 20 years. When she left the hospital, she became a District Manager for House of Lloyd-Christmas Around the World. She and Jake had the opportunity, through House of Lloyd, to travel to many other countries.

During their retirement, Jake and Joann enjoyed traveling with their family, spending time with friends, and relaxing at their lake house at Mt. Storm WV. Joann, having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, was at peace knowing that God was in control. As she faced the challenges of failing health over the past several years, she took comfort in knowing that when the time came to depart from this world, she would spend eternity in the presence of Jesus. Joann was bed-fast the last two months of her life.

She was under the care of WVU Medicine Hospice. The ladies from hospice were wonderful, and took great care of her. We would like to thank them as well as Tonya Layman and Terri Collett, for the special care that they gave Mother during the last few weeks of her life. We will be forever grateful!

All services will be private.

Interment will be in Omega-Alpha Cemetery.

An open Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, July 13, 2024 at Pinto Mennonite Church beginning at 11:00 a.m. Joseph "JP" Marker, Joann and Jake's grandson, will be in charge of the service. Thank you to all that have prayed for Joann and our family during this time.
