CUMBERLAND - Michael Thomas McMarlin, 73, of Cumberland, passed away Sunday, September 20, 2026 at home.

Born March 19, 1953, in Pittsburgh, PA, he was a son of the late John C. McMarlin and Eleanor J. (Willis) McMarlin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Tyler A. McMarlin.

Mike was a graduate of Shaler Area High School in Pittsburgh. He went on to attend the school of music at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He began his career as a locomotive engineer with B&O Railroad and eventually retired from CSX. After his retirement, he continued to work as an engineer with Western Maryland Scenic Railroad and Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad.

In his younger years, he was strongly involved with his community. He was a former member of the Ali Ghan Temple in Cumberland and the Masonic Lodge in Butler, PA. He also belonged to the Cumberland Moose, the National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees, Inc., the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen, and Teamsters Local 453. He also attended Calvary Chapel in Cumberland.

Mike was a train enthusiast and collector and a lover of music. He took great pride in building a model train display under the Christmas tree every year and seeing the delight in his grandchildren's eyes. He played nearly every instrument and especially loved the marimba. Mike could make or build absolutely anything.

Left behind to cherish his memory is his wife of 45 years, Sabrina (Gaudino) McMarlin; children, Lindsay McMarlin Dafir (Al), of Stafford, VA, and Scott McMarlin, of West Middlesex, PA; grandchildren, Tyson and Lorenzo McMarlin, Nicia McMarlin, Anthony McKinley, Amin and Riyad Dafir; brother, John McMarlin III.

In accordance with his wishes, he will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Chapel, 416 Pennsylvania Ave, Cumberland, MD 21502.
