Sandy Spring, MD – Michael "Mike" Joe Kuykendall, 74, of Sandy Spring, MD, passed away on Monday, December 30, 2024 at Medstar Montgomery.

Born January 7, 1950, in Cumberland, MD, he was the son of the late R. Maxine (Leese) and E. Russell Kuykendall, Sr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jeffrey Lynn Kuykendall; stepmother, Evelyn Hamner Kuykendall; and stepsisters, Susan DeHart and Joyce Simpson.

Mike attended the University of Maryland College Park and received his Bachelor's Degree in Education in 1972. He went on to teach 5th grade in Montgomery County Public Schools for almost 40 years.

Mike was a big fan of the New York Yankees. He was an avid card player, especially with family.

Mike is survived by his brother, Ernest R. "Russ" Kuykendall, Jr. and wife Norma; niece, Karen Ann Grace and husband Kevin; great-nephews, Elliott and Oliver Grace; stepsisters, Carolyn Dillow and husband Charles, Dr. Candace Todd and husband Randy. Mike is also survived by several step-nieces and step-nephews.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland on Saturday, January 11, 2025 from 9 to 11am. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11am.

Interment will be private in Greenwall Cemetery, Headsville, WV.
