YORK, PA – Mildred Ivedene (Barnes) Smith, 94, of York, PA, formerly of Artemas, PA, went to be with the Lord Saturday, August 31, 2024, at her granddaughter's home.

Born June 23, 1930, in Artemas, she was a daughter of the late Stanley and Sylvia (Wigfield) Barnes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hobert Wilson Smith; her daughter, Sharon D. Bollman; her brothers and their wives, Richard (Opal) Barnes, Donald (Elizabeth) Barnes, Merle (Jane) Barnes; and daughter-in-law, Anna Smith.

Mildred was a 1948 graduate of Everett High School. She was employed at London Fog in Hancock, MD as a seamstress before retiring in the early '90s.

She was a lifelong member of Fairview Christian Church in Artemas, PA.

Mildred loved her family and friends and especially enjoyed when they would come to visit and spend time with her. She loved to cook meals for everyone who came to her home and there was always some baked goodie waiting as well. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, canning and, in her later years, making jewelry and doing jigsaw puzzles. Most of all, she showed her love by caring for others in any way she could.

Mildred leaves behind her granddaughter, Jennifer (Douglas) Higgins; stepson, Eugene Smith; great grandchildren, Christian Fann, Kayleigh Sites, Adrianna Sites, Anthony Sites, Draeden Bollman, and Delainey Bollman.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, MD on Thursday, September 5, 2024 from 2 to 4pm and from 6 to 8pm.

A funeral service will be conducted at the Fairview Christian Church, Artemas, PA, on Friday, September 6, at 12pm. Friends will be received at the church from 11am to 12pm.

Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery.
