Mar 18, 1942 — Jul 16, 2026
Nancy Virginia (Huff) Young, 84, of Cumberland, Maryland, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2026, at Allegany Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born March 18, 1942, in Cumberland, she was the beloved daughter of the late Carl v. Huff and Adeline (Phares) Huff. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Carl L. Huff.
Nancy was a proud 1960 graduate of Fort Hill High School, where she served as her class president and was a member of the cheerleading squad. Following graduation, she began a career as a teller at First Federal Bank. It was there that a customer named Harry "Butch" Young walked through the doors, changing her life forever. Their chance meeting blossomed into 63 years of marriage.
Throughout her life, Nancy found joy in serving others. She worked as a teachers aide in the Allegany County School System before joining the Allegany County District Court clerk's office, where she remained until her retirement.
Nancy was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church and devoted countless hours to the church, which later became Our Lady of the Mountains Parish. She volunteered with St. Anthony's Place, assisted with bereavement meals and helped prepare lunches for the summer lunch program.
Nancy treasured her many friendships and loved traveling with her husband, friends, and family creating memories that lasted a lifetime. She also remained connected to her alma mater through volunteering for the Fort Hill Scholarship Fund. As well as, faithfully organizing the annual class reunion picnic, bringing classmates together year after year.
Above all else, Nancy's greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Harry "Butch" Edwin Young Jr.; her loving daughter Jill Starr, and the light of her life, her grandson, Benjamin David Starr. She also leaves behind many cherished extended family members and dear friends. She will forever be remembered for her gentle spirit, generous heart, and contagious laugh.
Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave, Cumberland on Thursday, July 23, from 5:00 to 7:00pm.
