CUMBERLAND – Naomi Elizabeth "Bea" Himmelwright Lamm passed away quietly on Sunday, January 23, 2022 at the Cumberland Healthcare Center. Bea was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. G. Overton Himmelwright and wife Naomi (Lashley) Himmelwright. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Lamm Earl and husband, Mike and; her sister, Georgia Gross, Palmyra New Jersey. She is also survived by her nephew, Benjamin Gross. Bea was grateful for her many close friendships. She is also survived by her lifelong friend, Rebecca Minke and husband Jim of Hutchinson Island, Florida and their son, Skyler Morgantown, WV; and her housekeeper for many years and very close friend, Samantha Yacenech, husband Mike and son, Cody of Cumberland. Bea was a very proud 1972 graduate of Fort Hill High School, where she was a majorette and featured twirler. Bea studied pre-nursing at the University of Maryland, Baltimore Campus, and graduated with her Bachelor's and Master's of science degrees in nursing from the University of Maryland. Bea completed her Doctorate at West Virginia University in Educational Leadership. Bea worked in the Neo-Natal Care Unit at Baltimore City Hospital caring for critically ill infants for several years. She returned home to Virginia Avenue in Cumberland and devoted her time to many community service projects. She was very active in The Bishop Walsh Charity Auction for many years. She was a member of the South Cumberland Business and Civic Association, and served on the Board of Directors for the South Cumberland Library. Bea's first love was in medicine, and she loved to help the medical community. She chaired several nursing Caucasus for the University of Maryland at WMHS, working closely with AHEC West. Under Bea's leadership, the University of Maryland Wellmobile operated successfully in Cumberland and outlying areas taking care of the under-served. She was very passionate about the services that it provided. Bea retired from teaching as Assistant Professor at the University Of Maryland School Of Nursing. Bea had many wonderful caregivers through the years, and special thank you to Pam Abe, Brenda Pennsyl, Sue Wigfield, and Kim Scarlett. Special thank you to the caregivers at the Cumberland Healthcare Center. Bea has been cremated. There will be a celebration of Bea's life at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Friday, March 4, 2022, at 2 p.m. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be in the Mt. Savage United Methodist Church Cemetery with her parents. COVID protocols will be in place for the service and masks will be required.
