Obituary

Patricia Marie "Pat" Crawford, Cumberland, passed away on February 20, 2024, in the intensive care unit of UPMC-Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA, after a brief, critical illness.

Born December 19, 1954, in DuBois, PA, she was the daughter of William Delos and Betty Marie (Graboski) Crawford, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Michael L. Crawford, in 2007.

Pat graduated from Fort Hill High School in 1972, and was a graduate of Hagerstown Business School in 1974. She also held a bachelor's degree from Geneva College, PA.

She was employed in the medical office of Dr. Terry Williams as a medical secretary, then later worked for 30 years as the Assistant to the Director of Nursing Programs at Allegany College of Maryland. She was an adjunct instructor in the nursing program, teaching numerous semesters of Medical Terminology before her retirement in 2016. Pat also served as a Stampin' Up demonstrator for many years.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Ambrose Catholic Church, and Christ Lutheran Church, LaVale.

While a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Pat was active on committees, and served on the church council, serving two terms and filling the position of secretary to the council for many years. Pat was involved in many ministries within the church and numerous committees, and was a lector for most of her membership tenure.

She was an instrumental part of the church's Reach Meal program, and was well-known for fixing her favorite dishes for literally thousands of community members during the course of her volunteer service.

Pat was loved by nearly everyone she met, and even though she suffered for 24 years with Castleman's Disease, had several major surgeries, and weathered the effects of chemotherapy for a major part of her life, she always found time to care for the people in her life.

She always had time to talk to friends and co-workers who were feeling down, could always whip up a casserole for a needy friend, and always made time to send homemade cards to celebrate someone's birthday, anniversary or special event.

When Pat wasn't busy sharing her many talents with others, she was glued to the TV helping to cheer her beloved Steelers on to victories and Super Bowls, or just enjoying watching a golf match with her dad.

Pat is survived by her brother, Bill Crawford, and sister-in-law MarySue, LaVale; her nephew Brian Crawford and wife Jenni, LaVale; niece Pam Crawford, Clarksville, TN; nephew Scott Crawford and wife Megan, Berea, KY; nephew Mickey McGuire and wife Melissa, LaVale; nephew Joey McGuire and wife Melissa, Gambrills, MD; and nephew Jeremy McGuire and wife Sarah, Cresaptown.

She is also survived by her most favorite grand-nephews, Christopher and Jacob Sarageno; Henry Crawford, John McGuire III, Jack McGuire, and Izzy McGuire; grand-nieces Shawntell Layman, Lizzie McGuire, Emily McGuire and Julia Crawford.

Visitation will be held Friday, March 1, 2024, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, and at the church one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
