CUMBERLAND Phyllis Jane McCreary, 93, of Cumberland, passed away Friday, November 23, 2018, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.Born August 19, 1925, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Eugene and Marie Anna (Persch) Law. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles R. McCreary, Sr. in July 2003; sister, Laverne Tewell; brothers, William E. Law and Bud Law; her sister's infant child; and daughter-in-law, Beverly K. McCreary.Phyllis graduated from Catholic Girls Central High School in 1943. She then married the love of her life, Charles, in 1947. She was a cafeteria worker at St. Patrick's Elementary School and Bishop Walsh High School. Phyllis was a life-long member of Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Parish, St. Patrick's Catholic Church.She enjoyed playing BINGO and spending time with her grandchildren. She was an active member of her community card club. Her children looked forward to the nights she hosted her club members since that meant plenty of leftover candy and sweets the next morning. Phyllis, or "Aunt Jane" as the neighborhood children called her, was a mother to all. Her children's childhood friends still remember her fondly as a loving mother figure in the community. Spending time with her sister on bus trips was another highly anticipated activity as well as bowling with her group of friends at the Bowler.Phyllis is survived by her sons, Charles R. McCreary, Jr., Midlothian, MD, Donald L. McCreary, Cocoa Beach, FL, and Ronald L. McCreary, Cumberland; grandchildren, Andrew McCreary and wife Michelle, Stow, OH, and Stacey Minnich and husband Eric, Finzel, MD; great-grandchildren, Kellen, Brandon, and Courtney; one great-grandchild on the way; nephews and nieces, David, Kathy, Steve, Lisa, and Jim; and great-nieces and nephews.Arrangements are entrusted to Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., Cumberland.
