Rawlings, MD – Randell "Randy" Bernard O'Brien, 93, of Rawlings, passed away on Thursday, December 30, 2021, at Sterling Care in Frostburg, MD. Born April 17, 1928, he was the son of the late Adolphus E. and Fannie M. (Bernard) O'Brien. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, and mother to his children, Jacqueline E. (Rohrbaugh) O'Brien; his youngest son, Robert E. O'Brien; and his three siblings, Wayne A. and Everett E. O'Brien, and Shirley J. Ross. "Randy" aka "Pappy O" grew up in Swanton, MD, graduating from Oakland High School in 1946. He then served our country by enlisting in the Marines. He served six years as sergeant, stationed in Camp Lejeune, NC. He then became a draftsman for ABL (Allegany Ballistics Laboratory) where he worked for 43 years. He was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church in Cresaptown. He drove the church bus, and served as a deacon. He learned to be a videographer, videoing the church's services. He drove the Veteran's bus, taking local veterans to their medical appointments. He was a charter member of the Rawlings Fire Department, helping to get it started. He also helped drive firetrucks. He was a member of the Accident American Legion. Above all, his family was his main priority. Surviving is his wife Phyllis Warnick O'Brien; his three children, David R. O'Brien wife Joann (Bittinger), Cumberland, and Lynne M. Hardesty husband Larry, Oakland; and his daughter-in-law, Mitzi L. O'Brien, Cresaptown; four grandchildren, Dawn M. Strawser and husband Brian, Eglon WV, Paula M. Glotfelty, Terra Alta, WV, Robert "Robby" P. O'Brien, Cresaptown, and Randell "Randy" W. O'Brien, Cresaptown; three step-grandchildren, Stephanie A. Holdren, Keyser, WV, Larry K. Hardesty and wife Michelle, Oakland, MD, and Maggie M. Moore and husband Beau, Oakland, MD; three great-grandchildren, Cameron and girlfriend Gracie, Keaton, and Colton; nine step great-grandchildren, Morgan, Olivia, Lucas, Austin, Krystal, Justin, Brittany, Logan, and Brandon and girlfriend Brianna; one step great-great grandchild, Saylor; and his sister, Betty D. Mattingly and husband Ray, Oakland, MD. Visitation will be at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 15205 McMullen Hwy SW, Cresaptown, MD, on Saturday, January 1, 2022, from 2:00pm until 4:00pm and 6:00pm until 8:00pm. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday, January 2, 2022, at 1:00pm with Chaplain Bruce McBride officiating.
