Cumberland - Rebecca Reed Zajdel, 33, of Cumberland, MD, passed away at home on Saturday, May 18, 2024. She is survived by her children, Michael Caswell Jr. and Myla Caswell of Cumberland, MD; her sister, Katharine R. Zajdel of Frederick, Maryland; and her uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Rebecca was born in Babadag, Romania in 1990 and adopted by parents, Larry and Linda Zajdel, shortly before her first birthday. She graduated from Fort Hill High School in 2008, where she was an outstanding athlete, playing key positions on both the soccer and softball teams. She went on to attend Allegany College of Maryland and Frostburg State University where she studied Parks and Recreation Management. Rebecca worked at Rocky Gap Casino for some time as a blackjack dealer.

Rebecca loved being a mom and doted on her two children, buying them gifts and treats. She liked to spend time in the water, be it swimming, boating, or tubing. She had an outgoing personality and could easily strike up a conversation with anyone she met. Rebecca enjoyed going on trips and vacations, spending many summers with the family in Williamsburg, Virginia and later taking her children to Ocean City, Maryland and the Great Wolf Lodge. Her friendly nature and fun-loving personality will be missed by all.

In accordance with her wishes, she will be cremated.

Friends were be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 15205 McMullen Highway, Cresaptown on Tuesday, May 28, from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. A memorial service will immediately follow at 4:00 p.m. with Pastor Dan Swanson officiating.
